In 2004, the total adspend In Australia in Online surpassed what was spent in Outdoor Advertising. By the end of 2006, estimates are that Online adspend will eclipse what is spent on Radio Advertising.
So why is this happening? What does this mean for advertisers?
As mentioned in Our Point Of Difference page, the Carnegie Report which was released in April 2005, revealed where 18-34 year olds go to get their news.
The survey showed that 44% go online to get their news. 37% used TV and only 19% read newspapers. What’s more, that 19% is falling.
It was the Carnegie Report which prompted Rupert Murdoch to go on a US$2billion spending spree buying up internet properties.
Murdoch, like many others, has realised that as more and more people go online to get their news, download songs, do their banking, they’re not going to be reading newspapers or watching TV.
Advertisers advertise where the people are. So if you’re not online, you’re missing out on reaching your market. It’s as simple as that.
